We’re throwing back again to January of 2024, when we began our campaign of the King’s Dilemma with a couple of friends. This had been a long time coming, as I had gotten this as a gift for Jon way back in like, 2019? But we could never find the right group of people available to play it with us, and a pandemic happened, and a couple of moves, and here we are five or so years later! Also, pumpkin scones! 😋

Scrumptious Scones
I love these scones so much, and you will probably see them again at a future game night. They’re easily made sugar free by not including the icing (but who would deprive themselves of delicious icing??). I’ve also had pretty good success making them gluten free, though they tend to be a bit drier and crumblier, so… maybe use more icing? 😂 When making the recipe as is, they are just the right amount of sweet, thick, and satisfying. They’re super easy to make and go great with a cup of chai or coffee while gaming. I’m also a firm believer that pumpkin flavored things are not limited to fall but are so good they should be enjoyed year round.
The Dilemma of the King’s Dilemma…
My husband is much more the story telling, role-player than I, but I was hoping this would be a good balance of game play and story that we both could enjoy. The game did have its enjoyable moments, and I enjoyed causing chaos with my voting to achieve my personal goals. But overall, I found that it needed a bit more ‘game’ and structure for my personal taste. I think our friends enjoyed the experience, but I’m in no hurry to seek out its successor (The Queen’s Dilemma). In the game, you are trying to keep balance in the courts and society as far as peace, war, resources, etc., while trying to investigate various strange things happening in the lands, all while achieving your family’s secret plans. There are usually votes to be had and influence to be gained, and I think maybe with the right group of people and the right vibes of the day it has potential. I do enjoy legacy games and the moments they build between the group. I’m glad we checked it out, but I would do some serious research on it before deciding if it’s for you and your group. It could be a great fit for your group!
