Our celiac friend was out of town today, so it was time for all the gluten, haha. We had some delightful treats, and played a couple of game that are newer to us, both adorable and crunchier than they appear, as well as a never-fail party game to end the night.

Apple Turnovers

I had a bunch of apples that were desperate to be used, and some puff pastry lying around, so it was a perfect time to try these apple turnovers I’d be eyeing for a while! They were pretty easy and turned out well! My one issue with the recipe, and any recipe that does this, it when it just says ‘a package of…”, and doesn’t specify the size of that package. I’ve found that the packages of puff pastry vary wildly in size here in Canada, especially compared to the US, so I was pretty sure I would not have enough pastry for all the apples. I’m not complaining, as I made more than enough for my guests and now have extra cinnamon sugar apples for my waffles tomorrow, but still. Other than that, the recipe was a breeze! Just slice up some apples, sauté them in butter, sugar, and cinnamon, add to a square of puff pastry, fold up, bake and ice! So yummy.

I also “made” some yubu chobap, delightful pockets of marinated tofu stuffed with seasoned rice. I say “made”, but it’s really just cooked rice with seasoning mixed in and then stuffed in the tofu. So easy but so good! One of our favorite snacks from our time living in Korea.

Transmissions

Transmissions is one of our newest acquisitions. We recently played it at a board game cafe, and they offered it to us for $10! Who were we to say no to that. It’s a very charming game that is very much art forward. There are four cute little robots that you collectively move around with your cards. They move in a circle, and are gathering resources to buy things like toasters and toothbrushes, as well as power-ups for the bots. You’re also building pipes with butterflies multiplied by birds being a pretty major way to get points. The pipes part feels a bit tacked on, but ya gotta lean into it to get those points. We’re still feeling out the vibes of this one a bit, but it is adorable in aesthetics and unique and intriguing in play.

We also played Emberleaf, a delightfully adorable game I’ve previously talked about, which you can read about here, and ended the night with some epic rounds of Ito. All in all a great game night!
