Today for Feature Friday we are giving some love to Table Top Cafe, “Edmonton’s original boardgame cafe…Proudly serving since 2013!” We first went last April thanks to Jon’s sister and her husband getting us a gift card. We had a dinner in town and then hit them up for a new to us game of Windmill Valley (which I quite liked).

For our most recent trip, we swung by after the Taste of Edmonton food festival and planned to play Endeavor: Deep Sea and Transmissions. Which brings up one of the things I love about this place- they have a fantastic game library that is available to view online, so we can plan ahead, read rules beforehand, and make the most of our time there. I’m also super impressed by their library! It’s well organized and has lots of hot new games that we were wanting to try; it was hard to choose what to play!

They also have a decent selection of games available for purchase, events, role playing camps and sessions, and of course food and drinks. I can’t speak much to their food, since the two times we’ve been there we’ve just gotten coffee. Honestly though, one reason for that is that they don’t have much in the way of vegan options except for things like popcorn and veggies & hummus. (If you’re not vegan, they have quite the food selection!).

The staff are fantastic! I saw some staff running what sounded like a very cute role playing session for some kiddos, the cafe staff did a great job getting us decaf iced coffee that wasn’t exactly on the menu and remembering my specific order (hazelnut latte with oat milk).
We also asked for help finding Transmissions in their library, as we weren’t finding it. Turns out it had recently been pulled for not getting played, but the staff went next door to their storage, got it for us! They said it was going to be put in their used game sale, and if we wanted to buy it for $10 we could. It was a delightful game, and even had some kickstarter exclusive stuff, so of course we said yes. We’d have been crazy not to lol. The staff were also knowledgeable about their store selection and I saw them helping customers who came in asking for things.

Overall, they do a great job of keeping their library and store well stocked & up-to-date and their staff are personable, helpful, and knowledgeable. I wish they were a little closer (and had a few more vegan food options); I would love to go way more often!
