About two years ago we had these delightful PB Cups, so I decided to make them again recently, as well as a new PB recipe to compare the two. They were quite different! We also played some classic party games at this event two years ago and they’re definitely worth talking about!

PB Cups with Dates

The PB Cups made with dates from Gluten Free Vegan Girl are awesome. They’re huge and chonky and rich. Ironically, they were supposed to freeze overnight, but I only had an hour or two and I think that was just about right. I had leftovers after they were fully frozen and they were …quite hard haha.Weirdly, I’m almost certain this is the recipe I used two years ago, but they look quite different from my original photo for some reason. They’re quite easy to make, blending dates and cocoa powder and PB, then a layer of PB, and more chocolate. If you’re sugar free, these are the ones for you!

PB Cups with Chocolate

These PB Cups from Minimalist Baker were much more traditional, standard Reeces like cups. They were mini, which made them too easy to scarf up! They only required like 45 minutes of freezing total, but I think they were even better after having been in the freezer much longer. You could pop the whole thing in your mouth and let it slowly melt and meld the flavors in your mouth. When we first tried them, the chocolate froze well but the PB kinda squished out the middle. Either way they’re great! If you’re more for the chocolate-y taste, go for these ones!

Party Games

Coup

Coup is a weird little game. You are secretly given two cards with roles on them. On your turn, you can do an action with one of the abilities of your roles, or you can just lie and say you’re a different role. Problem is, people can accuse you of lying, and if you’re caught your role gets eliminated. You can say anything you want and accuse anyone of lying about anything. But if both your roles are eliminated, you’re out. If this sounds like fun, give it a try! If this sounds terrible, it’s exactly how it sounds haha. For me, I like games like this in moderation. Coup is a crazy, extreme version of player elimination, deduction, accusing, and hidden roles. So silly.

Balderdash

Balderdash is a classic! It’s one of the oldest games in our library, dating back to the mid 80s. It’s kinda the epitome of a party game, where you’re given something from a category, like a movie title, random word, weird law, or random person, and you have to make up the meaning or story behind this thing. Then in classic Apples to Apples or Dixit style voting, people try to guess the right one and you get points if you got people to guess yours. It takes a certain kinda crowd for this one, creative and quick to right, not too small a group but not too big that it takes forever to read all the answers. But when it hits it hits! It’s had some hilarious moments, and while we don’t pull it out often anymore, it’s definitely a classic for a reason.
