This takes the title for my # 1 Star Wars game. Since 2016, we’ve logged 45 plays, making it our 8th most played game ever! Jon and I have done 3+ full campaigns just the two of us. Even though I’m sensitive to head-to-head games, this feels different with him as a DM. He even created a custom mission for me once that included a girl from Tokaido, raptors from Raptor, mobsters from Fortune & Glory, and minions from Mechs vs Minions. I’m lucky to be married to such a creative guy!
We recently started a new campaign with friends, and I’m loving using the newly painted minis our friend painted for us. They look incredible! Because it’s a campaign, it’s been played over several sessions, and we had a different snack at each session of course! We are nearly done with the campaign, and the snacks are getting to be a lot for one little post, so I think it’s time to hit the publish button on this guy, even if this particular campaign isn’t quite done. We all know the good guys win in the end. 😂

Snacks

This Cheesy Corn Jalapeno Dip from Minimalist Baker has become one of my recent favorites for a savory snack. I like to add a can of green chili for some extra kick, since I often find jalapenos not quite hot enough for me. I like how easy this is to throw together, and how it’s quite some substance to it unlike many of the typical creamy smooth dips. We usually limit this to game days with just a couple others, as we can easily finish this off with just four people. 🫣

I wrote about these Baklava Cookies a while ago here. They’re gluten free and oh so delicious! The ground up nuts and sugar take up more than half the cookie, haha, which is a-ok with me! It’s obviously not the flaky texture of baklava, but it is a great match to the flavor! They’re so delightful and pretty!

I recently wrote about these Mint Chocolate Brownie Bars here. They’re a great and indulgent treat for when you don’t want to do baking. The middle layer calls for coconut butter, which I didn’t even know was a thing until this recipe! Fear not if you don’t have it lying around, it’s super easy to make by blending up coconut for a solid several minutes. These are a nice mix of cool and refreshing mint and deep dark chocolate.

This Spinach Almond Artichoke Dip is has been my go-to dip for years! It is not your typical rich, creamy dip full of cream cheese, but instead is based with almond butter and white beans! It’s got great flavor, is super easy to whip up, and is a much healthier version to your typical recipe of this type. As long as you have some fresh spinach and a can of white beans and canned artichoke lying around, you can easily whip this up! This one is often requested at game nights, especially by my salty snack loving husband. Sadly I can’t remember or find the original author of this recipe 🫣, but shoutout to whoever originally made it. It’s so good!

I wrote about these Cinnamon Toffee Oat Bars here. They are simple but delightful chewy and chocolate-y bars. I love the nuttiness that makes you feel not too unhealthy, but the chocolate and coconut oil makes you still feel like you indulged. They’re a great one when you’re short on time and can’t run to the store for that one weird ingredient, cause I always have these things lying around. This has been a classic for me for many years!

Imperial Assault

Imperial Assault is a Star Wars themed dungeon crawler game, which is great for me since I am way more a fan of Star Wars than the typical themes used by dungeon crawlers. In it, you have someone (always my husband, in our case), running as the dungeon master (DM), who knows all the secrets and is running the bad guys side. Then you have 1-4 other players playing the good guys, trying to accomplish the missions set forth for that game. You have crates with fun surprises (my favorite!), baddies hiding around the corner and behind closed doors, people you need to rescue, terminals you need to interact with, and more. It’s such a change from our usual crunchy euros, and while I don’t want to play games like this all the time, it is such a fun campaign to play once a year or so. There are always such epic moments with dice rolling games, where you have that key roll of the dice that need to go just perfectly for you to survive. During our last mission, C3P0 kept rolling the ‘dodge’ side of the dice in critical moments that ensured his survival, despite our decision to ditch him. 😂Leveling up your characters and getting new gear after each mission is so fun, and by the end of the campaign you have to keep saying ‘wait wait, I have a thing for this!’ as you frantically scour all your cards and their abilities. This game lends itself to so many hilarious and dramatic moments, and now more than ever with our newly painted beautiful minis, this game is never leaving our collection.
