It’s my birthday month! Wahoo! My family and I always make a big deal out of birthdays, but this year is extra special since I’m starting Milly & Meeples in one week! So my parents have been getting me some games and decorations and such for my birthday in preparation for that. Today I played my first birthday present game, and enjoyed a delightfully rich dessert for two!

Molten PB Brownies
Ooohh boy were these brownies rich! Wowza! I may have made them slightly more peanut buttery than intended since I was scraping the bottom of my pb jar, which meant that the pb was super thick and concentrated. Definitely need some ice cream to balance this bad boy out! You make a nice THICK layer of pb lol, then make a brownie batter with a fudgey sauce and browned butter, and layer the brownie batter, pb, and more brownie on top. Bake and savor!
Azul Duel
Jon and I have played the original Azul a few times before both online and with other people’s copies. I thought this two player version would go great in the cafe, so it was the first game we tried from the first of my birthday extravaganza! I took on the task of learning and teaching this one, though to be fair, Jon learned it too lol. But we’re pretending I was the only one who learned it so I can get some practice at being the teacher before the cafe starts. This one is much thinkier and has more going on in the og, which I like! On your turn, you either take all of one color from one sun and then place the remaining tiles in the moons in a stack, or take all of one color from all the moons. There are also bonus chips to be had and dome tiles to take and place. You’re trying to finish rows of a color, to then move over onto the domes in their corresponding spot. They score for adjacency in rows and columns, and there are also group goals and special spots on the domes. A lot of little things going on! If you like 2-player puzzly abstract games, you should definitely check this one out.
