Prowlers & Pastries

I got this jar of blueberry jam weeks ago in preparation for this recipe, and today was finally the day! I love baking cinnamon rolls, but they often make such huge batches, and sometimes it’s just Jon and I hankering for something sweet. This small batch cinnamon roll recipe is for just such an occasion! Read on for more details of today’s Two Player Treats Tuesday!

Small Batch Gooey Lemon Blueberry Cinnamon Rolls

These sweet rolls are pretty simple to throw together, though I made them a tad more complicated, partly by accident and partly on purpose. The recipe by The Banana Diaries calls for quick rise yeast, but the only yeast I had lying around was traditional rise yeast, so that’s what we used today! Since it was not quick rise, I decided it might be best to proof it first. I warmed up 1/4c of water and threw the yeast in for about 10 minutes, and then cut the milk the recipe called for in half so the liquid was still the same. I also sadly didn’t have fresh lemons, so no zest and just bottled juice. But hey, don’t let perfection get in the way of great! Make it anyway! Because of missing lemon, it was mostly blueberry flavor and not a whole lotta lemon flavor, but that’s ok. To make up for it a bit, I added some frozen blueberries to the jam filling to make it a bit more chunky. Since I didn’t have the aforementioned lemons, I did the blueberry cream cheese frosting instead, which was delightful! These 6 rolls were a nice small batch. We probably should’ve stuck with one each for our little snack, but may or may not have had 2 each….whoops! We do still have 2 left for tomorrow! 😀

Prowler’s Passage

Prowler’s Passage is a super short little tug of war for 2. We first tried this one year at Gen Con, drawn to it by our love of Sentient by the same designer (J. Alex Kevern). We even met him there and got him to sign our box! In the game, you place your colored little roads on the intersection of some hexes, and then you move the colored trackers that match the territory next to your road towards you. You also get the token next to your road, which can help you score. If your road is the last one to surround a statue, you get the statue. Each of the territory colors scores differently, and you score midway through the game and at the end. Whoever has territory markers on their side of the tracker gets to score them. There’s also scoring for longest road, and some goal cards you choose for the game. I’m not usually one for head-to-head tug of war kinda games, but this was is just short enough and interesting enough that it stays in our collection. It often comes down to that 5th territory color and who can control it that determines the game, but not always. If you need just a quick little game to get your brain going and get some quality time with another person, check this one out!
